Mérieux Equity Partners announces the acquisition of a majority stake in Plantex to boost the company’s growth….

Mérieux Equity Partners announces the acquisition of a majority stake in Plantex, a leading plant extract manufacturer, alongside its historical shareholders through its investment vehicle Mérieux Participations 3 (MP3).
Founded in 1990, Plantex is a French specialist in plant extraction for the nutraceutical, agri-food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and animal nutrition industries. Its service offering covers a wide range of products from dry and liquid extracts to standardised plant complexes and tailormade formulations.
Since Mrs. Aicha Debaisieux has taken over the Company in 1997 and became President of Plantex, the company has been very attentive in offering high quality extracts by working exclusively with natural raw materials. To ensure a sustainable supply of quality raw materials, PLANTEX favours direct and long-term relationships with producers. Certified Bio Label (organic certification) since 1998, and with more than 30% of its production certified Bio Label, Plantex has positioned itself as a forerunner in this organic segment and has embraced the end-customer trend of naturality and quality ingredients.
Thanks to the constant attention made on quality and its exceptionally wide product portfolio of 250+ plants, Plantex has quickly become an export-oriented company with c.a 2/3 of its sales outside of France. PLANTEX intends to further strengthen its international presence by opening a new production unit in North Africa in 2021 and by reinforcing its commercial presence in areas of interest.
Mérieux Equity Partners, Mrs. Aicha Debaisieux and the management of PLANTEX share the same ambitions for future development of the Company: strengthen internal resources to pursue its organic growth and internationalisation and expand through targeted acquisitions, in attractive and fast-growing plant extract segments.
With an expected turn-over of circa €30 million in 2020, Plantex’s sales have doubled in the past 5 years and the Company has now more than 70 employees
“The entry of Mérieux Equity Partners in the capital of Plantex represents a major development opportunity for the company and its employees, to boost innovation, access new markets such as Asia, and perform dedicated strategic acquisitions. This new adventure will certainly enable Plantex to accelerate its growth” says Aicha Debaisieux, President of PLANTEX.
“Our investment in PLANTEX, as a majority shareholder alongside Aicha Debaisieux, its CEO, is motivated by the strength of the existing team and by a shared vision of the company’s future” says Thierry Chignon, Managing Partner at Mérieux Equity Partners, who adds “PLANTEX is our fourth investment since 2018 in the nutrition sector and confirms the interest and expertise we have developed in supporting entrepreneurs in this pilar of our investment strategy. Plantex is the 11th investment of our Mérieux Participations 3 vehicle, launched in July 2018”.
