HYDROCURC EXERCISE RECOVERY STUDY – This study sets out to demonstrates its ability to support muscle recovery post-exercise.
Curcumin has previously been shown to improve biomarkers of muscle damage, particularly post-exercise. However with the absorption challenges curcumin has, such benefits cannot be delivered to consumers unless using innovative delivery technologies. Pharmako Biotechnologies branded curcumin, Hydrocurc, utilises their award-winning LipiSperse delivery technology, which helps overcome these challenges by increasing bioavailability and functionality of curcumin. Wanting to establish Hydrocurc’s role in the Sports Nutrition industry, a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled study was conducted to assess the effect of curcumin on exercise recovery in recreationally trained healthy males aged 18-35 years.
The participants undertook lower limb resistance exercise to exhaustion, where by those who consumed Hydrocurc resulted in significant reduction in delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), lactate accumulation and thigh circumference (indicating muscle swelling and inflammation).The results suggest curcumin may facilitate a quicker return to exercise training and/or allow a higher training intensity than a placebo by reducing post-exercise pain, modulating inflammatory pathways and reducing lactate accumulation in an exercising population.
