Bensdorp®… the pow(d)er of success
Throughout our long and rich history, Bensdorp cocoa powders have become synonymous with Royal Dutch Cocoa. Their premium quality and excellent usability remain unequalled to this very day. Our corporate heritage traces all the way back
to 19th century Holland, an industrial hotbed for revolutionary cocoa processing techniques that determined the unique taste and texture of the cocoa products you enjoy today. We embrace our roots dearly and uphold them by continuing to offer you the world’s finest cocoa.
The Bensdorp® story begins in 1840, when Gerardus Bensdorp founded his small cocoa factory. He was, by all accounts, already quite a celebrity in the world of cocoa, and prior to starting his company, had spent seven years wandering Europe
working as a chocolate and sugar manufacturer. Gerardus Bensdorp was a man who knew cocoa well and who knew it was the right time to share his own recipes with the world. The Bensdorp® Chocolate Company became a guiding light in the popularization of cocoa and chocolate products around the world, making them accessible to more and more people. It even counted President Cleveland of the USA as one of their loyal customers.
In the late 20th century, Bensdorp® chose to refocus on its core business, namely the production of cocoa butter and cocoa
powder. At this time, they made an agreement with the Barry Callebaut Group, the world’s leading manufacturer of high quality chocolate and cocoa. The resulting range of products and state-of-the-art production line has helped the company enormously, particularly as it has developed its hyperspecialization.
