Dr. S. K. Dash had been following the developments of probiotics since he learned that a probiotic product was licensed by the USDA in the 1950’s as a drug to treat E. coli infection in pigs. Unfortunately, this therapy was pushed below the public’s radar by the pharmaceutical companies to market antibiotics. Dr. Dash did his own studies to prove the benefits of probiotics. Research revealed that probiotics were 97% effective in combating E. coli infection in pigs.
Dr. Dash established UAS Laboratories, Inc., a leading biotechnology company in Minnesota, United States. He, after completing his Ph.D. in Nutrition, Microbiology and Biochemistry from South Dakota State University (USA), worked as the Director of South Dakota Food and Drug. Dr. Dash gave up his high profile government position to establish UAS Labs, which has been at the forefront of the probiotic industry since 1979. Some might argue that he has been the driving force behind an industry that has grown dramatically since UAS Labs was founded 35 years ago.
