Spring 2002 Issue — Fibregum, the Natural Soluble Fibre with Proven Efficiency

< Back

Fibregum is a natural exudate from the acacia tree purified by physical means. It is an arabinogalactosaccharide containing more than 80% soluble fibre (through AOAC method). Fibregum bifidogenic potency have been proven through clinical tests, conducted by the Human Nutrition Research Center (HNRC) of Nantes (France), under the direction of Christine Cherbut M.D.

A proven bifidogenic effect

This study objective was to assess the bifidogenic nature of Fibregum by measuring its stimulating effect on potentially beneficial bacteria in the fecal flora.

The bifidogenic properties of Fibregum have been evaluated by measuring the fecal concentrations of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli as compared with the concentrations recorded during sugar consumption (sugar beet sucrose).

The single-blind study focused on 10 healthy volunteers between 20 and 40 years of age with no history of gastro-intestinal disorders or medication.

The effect of Fibregum (FIB) were compared with those of sugar as control, sugar beet sucrose (SUC).

The periods lasted 10 days and followed each other in succession as described: SUC: 10 g/d (grams per day); FIB 10 g/d; SUC 15 g/d; FIB 15 g/d.

The subjects consumed their normal diet under stable conditions. Foods containing inulin or fructo-oligosaccharides and yogurts containing bifidobacteria or lactobacilli were prohibited. The results of this study showed that Fibregum significantly increased the fecal concentration of lactic acid bacteri and bifidobacteria (bifidogenic effect) four-fold at 10 g/day.

Fibregum can be used in a large number of applications with numerous technological properties. Fibregum is the natural choice for your healthy applications. An abstract of the clinical survey is available on request at CNI.
